How to pay for a funeral

When you’ve decided the detail on the funeral choices we will then provide you with an itemised written estimate of the costs. You can make changes if you wish after this point, although these may affect the final funeral costs.

The funeral is paid in two parts:
1. You will need to pay for disbursements, things like Minister fees, cremation fees etc, upfront.
2. For everything else, we’ll send you an invoice after the funeral.

You can pay at the funeral home, at a bank or the post office, by cash, cheque, credit or debit card.

We can cover the cost of the funeral through an estate

At the Co-op we’re in a unique position where we can pay all the costs of a Co-op funeral and pay back any deposit paid if you instruct our legal team in Co-op Legal Services to carry out probate, providing that the estate has sufficient assets that can be sold in due course.  This could include:
•  A house to be sold
•  Money in banks accounts
•  Stocks, shares and ISA’s

In this case, the disbursements mentioned above would still need to be paid upfront but will be paid back to you within 21 days of instructing Co-op Legal Services to act.

Applying for probate or, if there is no will in place, a grant of letters of administration, can often be complex and time consuming but our team of expert Probate Lawyers can take care of this for you.  You will be given a dedicated Probate Lawyer who will deal with all the legal, tax and other administrative duties which are needed when administering an estate.  Leaving you free to focus on what matters most to you at what is often a very stressful and upsetting time.

Co-op Legal Services offer fixed fees with no upfront costs to pay, protection through a regulated service and are the largest provider of legal services to bereaved families in the UK.  Also if you find the same quality service at a lower price, we promise to beat it – that’s our best price guarantee, T&C's apply.
